MATH 132 Course Syllabus
Math 132 Statistics and Probability Spring 02
You have registered for a one semester course in Statistics - a non-math majors course. I expect that you will be able to deal with the Algebra needed in the course. In addition to the Algebra, you will be using the computer to ease the burden of calculations. It is not required that you be computer literate as this is not a computer course. There are many computer and calculator programs available to do this statistical computations. Most computers have Excel will do the job. More sophisticated programs are SSPS and SAS. The TI 81,83,90, etc. all have built in statistical functions. In addition to the aforementioned I have some programs that you can use which are "point and click simple." We are interested in the finding and interpretation of statistics - not the devices that generate them.
This course is presented in three major sections:
Descriptive
Statistics: Chapters 1-4
Probability:
Chapters 5-8
Predictive Statistics: Chapters 9-17
Statistics are used in almost every field of study. In some fields it is the only method of proof! Most research utilizes statistical methods and most journals are written in statistical terms. Hence, this course should be useful to you.
